Lion dance is a form of traditional dance that is usually performed during the Lunar New Year and other cultural and religious festivals. It may also be performed at important occasions such as business events, special celebrations or wedding ceremonies, or may be used to honor special guests during the festivities.
The dance performers put on a colorful lion costume and mimic a lion’s movements for their dance. Each of the movement is closely related to martial art and takes years for a martial art student to master the art.
Our SKZ Lion Team was a group of students from the San Jose Chinese School.
Big Lion #1 = Jasper and Justin;
Girl Lion #2 = Victoria and Mabel;
Boy Lion #3 = Noah and William. After eight classes of intense training, our Lion Team and students were ready to perform on stage to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday Feb 6th for the San Jose Chinese School.
Our Lion Team dance was the opening act for the celebration. The three lions were majestically poised and playfully danced. After the Lion dance, Jasper, Justin,, Sean, William, Philip, Victoria, Noah, Mabel, Carina and Rayden did their individual kung Fu performances.
